Spanda
When the body is informed by an agile mind and a feeling heart, it transforms itself into a delightful instrument of expression. We insist on an engagement with the text, with the music and the lighting - all the ingredients that make for a meaningful performance. But most important is the dancer and his/her engagement with the dance. In Spanda, no one dancer has a role that stands out as pivotal, as in the hero-heroine oriented stories that we see, we choose from pre-vedic texts that are universal in spirit: inclusive rather than exclusive.
Dance is the conversation between the body and soul.
ABOUT
Spanda is a cohesive and well-knit group, doing performances of the abstract and symbolic, of the traditional and contemporary, without forsaking the vocabulary of bharatanatyam that we so love.
